Our Admissions Criteria
At Erlanger, we want to connect you with the comprehensive personalized treatment that will help you to live the life that you desire and deserve. For this reason, one of the first steps in the admissions process is to determine whether our hospital is the best place for you.
All admissions decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. To be considered for placement with us, however, you must meet the following general criteria:
- Have a primary diagnosis of a mental health disorder
- Can participate in, and benefit from, our services
- Do not need acute medical care, isolation due to infection, or hospice services
- Have no recent history of violence towards staff
Once we’ve confirmed your eligibility according to these criteria, you’ll complete a more detailed assessment. The results of this assessment will form the basis of your personalized treatment plan.
If at any point in the admissions process we determine that you would be better served by another provider, we’ll work with you and your family to make the most suitable referral.
Patients with Medical Concerns
If your mental health needs are accompanied by certain medical concerns, your admission to Erlanger may require approval by our on-call medical provider. The following are situations that may prompt this approval process:
- You need oxygen, a catheter, or other medical devices
- You require physical, occupational, or speech therapy
- You are transferring from an intensive care unit or acute medical floor
The reason for this additional approval step is to ensure that we are aware of the full scope of your needs, and are prepared to provide you with the care and support that you deserve.
As with our general admissions criteria, if we determine that Erlanger is not the best option for you due to your medical needs, we’ll work with you and your family to make an appropriate referral.
